Bariloche, Argentina, August 1. While most US Biathletes are sweating through summer dry-land training, several National Junior team athletes are training on mid winter snow in Bariloche, Argentina.
Coach Vladimir Cervenka accompanied a group of three juniors south of the equator for on snow training this week and competitions next week near Mount Otto in the Argentinean Andes. Cervenka reports that with over a meter of snow and temperatures in the twenties, training conditions have been perfect.
The group includes Brynden Manbeck (Grand Rapids, MN), Laura Spector (Lenox, MA) and Wynn Roberts (Brainerd, MN), who will compete in both Nordic and Biathlon competitions at the Argentine national Championships.
Cervenka, wearing a winter parka while the US struggles with a heat wave commented, “This is a great place to escape the summer heat and kick off the coming race season.”
