Minnesota Biathlon promotes biathlon throughout Minnesota by helping local
clubs get started, organizing summer camps and competitions, and coordinating
coaching and travel to regional and national competitions. The Twin Cities
area is served by a 4km roller loop and 10 point biathlon range at Elk River.
Mt. Itasca Biathlon Range in Coleraine features is a world class biathlon site- it includes a 30-point
biathlon range, and snowmaking and lights on 2.5km of race trail. Junior National Team Coach Vladimir Cervenka and his wife Petra run the biathlon programs at Mt Itasca.
An 18 point biathlon range was completed in June of 2001
at Snowflake Nordic Center in Duluth, and it connects to 15km of heavily used
nordic trail. Chad Salmela, Head Nordic coach at St Scholastica College, coaches biathletes in Duluth.
Greystone Biathlon Club in St Cloud is coached by Ion Senchea, former Junior coach from Romania. An new 20 point range with 15km of ski trails is regularly groomed and snow making is being planned.
Nisswa NW Biathlon Club range in Brainerd is coached by Bill Meyer. Bill consults on range construction at sites all around the US. Nisswa Biathlon has an 8 point range with 3km of ski trails.
Minnesota Biathlon conducts year round training programs as well as organized
summer and winter competitions. With the growing number of facilities, Minnesota
Biathlon will continue to produce world-class biathletes, and support the
ever-increasing numbers of junior athletes throughout the state.
