Q & A with the U.S. Biathlon Fan Club!

Our loyal fan club group from Germany has traveled the globe with us, providing unparalleled support for our team on the World Cup. We thank them and all of our fans and supporters around the world for cheering on the U.S.! We love to see you all at races, so don’t forget to tag us on social media (@usbiathlonteam) or hashtag #usbiathlon and #usbiathlonteam!

Q. When was the U.S. Biathlon Fan Club created and why was it created?

A. The fanclub was founded in 2016. After we supported Team USA for a few years without being a fanclub, we decided to make it to get maybe more attention for this sport in the US.

When we met the team and staff in Antholz 2014 at „Seehotel“ and in the tent we had good conversations and sympathy to all the team and we decided to support them as best as possible!

Q. What initially drew you to become a fan of biathlon?

A. Here in Germany you start being a winter sports fan at a young age. Also my parents watched winter sports as much as possible, and biathlon was the most interesting sport for me. When I was 12, I got a ticket for Sunday's mass start in Oberhof for Christmas and from then we went there every year.

Q. How many World Cups have you traveled to? Which venue is your favorite to visit?

A. This year we have been to 6 World Cups. In all the years, we have been to Östersund, Hochfilzen, Le Grand Bornand, Oslo, Pokljuka, Lenzerheide, Oberhof, Ruhpolding, Soldier Hollow, Canmore and Antholz. Two favorites: Antholz & Canmore :)

Q.  What do you find most exciting about watching biathlon?

A. First it’s about the sport for sure. The characteristic between being fast on your skis and controlling your breathing to shoot on those little targets. And also it’s about meeting old friends, finding new friends and traveling around the world.

Q. What was your favorite U.S. Biathlon Team moment from this season?

A. Our favorite moment was to support the team in the US and the men's relay got 4th! Such an exciting moment!

Q. How do you think the U.S. Biathlon Team compares to other nations on the international stage?

A.  It‘s hard to compete against Norway, Germany, France. Biathlon is the number one winter sport in these countries. The children decide at a young age to do biathlon. In the US, nearly nobody knows about this fascinating sport. That's why I think the team is doing well. Especially from our boys we can expect more in the coming years!

Q. What are you most looking forward to for next season? Is there a specific venue you are looking forward to visiting? If so, why?

A. World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland! It is a great venue and Deedra had absolutely great results there!
