Daughter of Bradley and Julienne Kautzer with one older sister, Jess. She started skiing in seventh grade when she intended to join her school’s alpine ski team, but accidentally went to the Nordic meeting instead and loved it. Three years later she qualified for Junior Nationals and started biathlon, going to World Juniors her second season in the sport. She is the only skier in her family; her parents, sister, cousins, aunts and uncles all competed in swimming. She raced collegiately for Michigan Technological University in both Nordic and Cross Country running, representing Tech at 4 NCAA championships. She was also recognized with the Elite-90 award as the top student athlete at NCAAs. She graduated at the top of her class from Tech with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and works remotely for Medtronic in their Neuromodulation division. Outside of race season you can find her participating in just about any other type of skiing: slalom, back country, park, and occasionally ski jumping. She also enjoys kayaking of both the flat and white water varieties, climbing, and mountain biking.
