Athletes Selected for Final Olympic Qualification Event, IBU Cup and Open European Championships

(Dec. 18, 2021) – Following two days of team trials in Craftsbury, Vt., the U.S. Biathlon International Competition Committee has named four athletes to advance to the final two stages of qualification for the U.S. Olympic Team that will compete at the Beijing 2020 Winter Games.

 

Athletes selected to advance were Max Durtschi (Ketchum, Idaho/Team Crosscut & USBA), Vasek Cervenka (Grand Rapids, Minn./National Guard Biathlon & USBA), Maxime Germain (Anchorage, Alaska/National Guard Biathlon), Hallie Grossman (South Burlington, Vt./Craftsbury Green Racing Project), Kelsey Dickinson (Winthrop, Wash./Craftsbury Green Racing Project), and Amanda Kautzer (Plymouth, Minnesota/Team Crosscut)

 

They will join World Cup athletes Deedra Irwin (Pulaski, Wis./National Guard Biathlon & USBA), Joanne Reid (Grand Junction, Colo.), Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H./National Guard Biathlon & USBA), and Leif Nordgren (Hinesburg, Vt./National Guard Biathlon & USBA) in a time trial qualification event in Arber, Germany, followed by the IBU Cup 4 in Brezno-Osrblie, Slovakia, Jan. 8-9. The final athlete nominations to the U.S. Olympic Team will be announced on Jan. 9.

 

The athletes not named to the Olympic Team will compete in IBU Cup 5 in Brezno-Osrblie, Slovakia January 12-15. They will be joined by Craftsbury Green Racing Project teammates Tara Gerhaghty-Moats (West Fairlee, Vt.) and Luke Brown (St. Paul, Minn.). These six athletes will be joined by four additional athletes for Open European Championships in Arber, Germany, from January 26-30, 2022. Qualified for the OECH team are Lucy Hochschartner (Lake Placid, N.Y./Team CrossCut), Chloe Levins (Rutland, Vt./USBA X Team), Scott Lacy (Team CrossCut), and Carsen Campbell (Bozeman, Mont./Craftsbury Green Racing Project).
