US Biathlon Athletes Elect New Board Representative and Athlete Advisory Council

by Sara Studebaker-Hall

New Gloucester, Maine - Athletes of US Biathlon have elected one new Board Representative and their own Athlete Advisory Council to serve starting in January 2023. As stipulated in the US Biathlon bylaws, athletes who have competed in the World Championships or Olympic Games in the last ten years, or who have placed in the top-half of a Nationals or trials competition were eligible to be nominated and to vote. The athletes elected Kelsey Dickinson to serve on the US Biathlon Board of Directors through 2026. Dickinson will replace Sean Doherty, who will complete his term as Athlete Representative in December 2022.

“I am very excited to be an athlete representative for US Biathlon and I look forward to building connections between the organization, the athletes, and the wider biathlon community,” said Dickinson. “I feel excited about the momentum that US Biathlon has in a variety of areas and I hope that I can help create positive change.”

New this year, athletes also elected an Athlete Advisory Council (AAC) to advise the Athlete Board members, as well as create a better connection between the athletes and the Board and staff. Vaclav Cervenka, Scott Lacy, and Maddie Phaneuf were elected to join Dickinson and current Board member Athlete Representatives Kelly Kjorlien and Jake Brown to complete this group.

The election saw over 83% participation rate from eligible athletes, and a competitive election for all positions. “We are thrilled to see such a high participation from the athletes and the competitive elections at all levels,” said US Biathlon Interim CEO, Jack Gierhart. “Seeing so many athletes willing to serve in these important roles is inspiring and shows their strong  commitment to improving our sport. We look forward to working with the new representatives as we continue to grow biathlon in the US and our presence on the international stage.”
