by Sara Donatello
Part underdog story, part wild ride - the film captures the grit, passion, and pursuit of America’s first Olympic biathlon medal.
Midway, UT - In winter 2026, U.S. Biathlon will release a new docuseries that pulls back the curtain on one of the most demanding and unique winter sports. Made possible by U.S. Biathlon Foundation Trustees, the 30-minute short-form documentary will follow the U.S. Biathlon Team’s preparation as they chase history.
Equal parts underdog story and behind-the-scenes adventure, the film will offer an intimate look at the U.S. Biathlon Team whose passion, grit, and relentless drive fuel their Olympic dreams. Through a mix of training footage, lifestyle vignettes, and candid, direct-to-camera interviews, viewers will see the authentic story of what it takes to succeed in the sport that blends cross-country skiing with precision marksmanship.
Ahmed Alali, U.S. Biathlon Foundation Trustee added, “As sport insiders, we get to spend time with the athletes and get to see first hand how demanding, challenging, and exciting the sport of biathlon is. We hope that this documentary allows you to get to know these athletes and this lifestyle, and provides you with the opportunity to be part of the U.S. biathlon family, and root our team on. Team USA!”
More than just an Olympic preview, the film will showcase the growth of biathlon in the United States, from grassroots development to the National Team’s quest for international success. Audiences will experience the grit of training in all conditions, the camaraderie of the team, and the unrelenting pursuit of excellence that defines the sport.
Paul Nihipali, filmmaker with Blue Chip Media said, "Filming with U.S. Biathlon at Soldier Hollow, Utah, and later this year in Östersund, Sweden, gives us the opportunity to showcase the sport like never before in America — from the rigors of training to the pressure of competition on the world stage. We're excited to convey the speed, intensity and emotion of this year’s team as they pursue Olympic history."
“As a former athlete and current biathlon development coach, it’s inspiring to see this documentary bring the story of U.S. Biathlon and the sport of biathlon to a wider audience," said Olympian Susan Dunklee. "The team has incredible momentum right now headed into the Milano-Cortina Olympics. This project will not only highlight the hard work and dedication of our athletes, but will also help build the visibility biathlon deserves here in the U.S., which is something we’ve been striving toward for years.”
The film will premiere in winter 2026 across U.S. Biathlon digital channels, ensuring fans, Olympic enthusiasts, and newcomers alike can share in the journey leading into the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
