STUDEBAKER HALL ELECTED TO IBU TECHNICAL COMMITTEE

SALZBURG, Austria (Sept. 17, 2022) - U.S. Biathlon gained an important seat on the International Biathlon Union’s Technical Committee with the election of Sara Studebaker-Hall to the important rule-making body. A two-time Olympian, Studebaker-Hall was one of the top selections to the committee in the election which took place at the IBU Congress in Salzburg Saturday (Sept. 17).

The IBU Technical Committee develops the technical rules for biathlon, including sport, clothing, equipment and competition facilities. She becomes one of just a small group of Americans to serve on the committee including the late Bill Spencer as well as new IBU Secretary General Max Cobb. Cobb served in a committee role, including as its chair, until he was elevated to the IBU Executive Board in 2016.

“Sara’s election to the IBU Technical Committee is an important step for U.S. Biathlon to have a voice at the highest level of the sport’s rulemaking,” said Cobb, who is leaving his role as president and CEO of U.S. Biathlon to lead the IBU. “Since her retirement as an athlete, Sara has taken on increasingly important roles to help support the sport in America.”

Studebaker-Hall, who now serves as operations manager for U.S. Biathlon, recently became the first American woman to achieve her technical delegate certification. Last season she served as chief of competition for the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships held at the Olympic venue of Soldier Hollow in Utah.

“What is especially gratifying in being elected to the IBU Technical Committee is that I had so much support from the entire biathlon family,” said Studebaker-Hall. “I’m looking forward to being a part of the process to help IBU deliver safe and fair events.”

She will join the 11-member committee immediately. The committee will select its Chair at the first meeting in Munich in October.
