New Gloucester, ME— U.S. Biathlon and Paul Smith’s College today announced that they have expanded their partnership, including U.S. Biathlon recognizing Paul Smith’s College as the Official Higher Education Partner of the Olympic sport federation.

US Biathlon and Paul Smith’s College began their partnership in 2020 when the college was named the Eastern Education and Training Center for US Biathlon. Under this partnership, a range of athletic scholarships have been awarded and the student-athletes have had the opportunity to attend classes on campus and train at PSC’s 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) trail and biathlon shooting range.

Some of the notable enhancements of this partnership include internship opportunities for graduates and undergraduates, participation by U.S. Biathlon on special class projects and members of the staff serving as guest speakers. In addition, Paul Smith’s College will receive increased presence and visibility at national and international competitions and events, logo placement on U.S. Biathlon’s competitive apparel with other key partners, and integration throughout U.S. Biathlon’s social media and communications platforms.

“Paul Smith’s has been a great partner for US Biathlon and we are excited to extend our relationship with an education institution of this caliber that is so committed to student-athletes, the outdoors and biathlon,” said Jack Gierhart, US Biathlon’s Interim CEO. “Education is a challenge for many athletes, and it is a priority for us to help find solutions. We are grateful for the opportunity that Paul Smith’s provides up-and-coming athletes to pursue a college education while continuing to chase their athletic goals. We are looking forward to working with the College to build on the recent success of its athletes and the impressive progress of its program and expand our engagement with the community across the entire college experience.”

“I am proud to continue our deep and impactful relationship with U.S. Biathlon,” said Paul Smith’s Interim College President Dan Kelting. “Our mission is to show the world the beauty of the Adirondacks and how truly unique our community is. Biathlon is a marquee outdoor sport that fits perfectly with our facilities and mission, and we look forward to the next step in this partnership and offering hands-on educational opportunities to all those who attend Paul Smith’s.”
