Jake Brown (St. Paul, MN/Craftsbury Green Racing Project) has been on a roll over the past two IBU Cup weekends in Lake Placid, NY. Racing on a course he knows well, Brown added a 12th place finish to the seventh and eight place results he secured last weekend, continuing an impressive run of form.
Despite missing six of his 20 targets, Brown powered on skis, posting the fifth fastest ski time of the day to finish +1:52.0 behind Norway’s Sverre Dahlen Aspenes. Aspenes topped the podium ahead of teammate Martin Nevland in second, while France’s Damien Levet claimed third.
Bjorn Westervelt (Stowe, VT/Craftsbury Green Racing Project) finished 35th on the day, followed closely by Vaclav Cervenka (Grand Rapids, MN/National Guard Biathlon) in 38th. Vincent Bonacci (Salt Lake City, UT/Unaffiliated) crossed the line in 43rd, and Thor Sheppard (West Yellowstone, MT/Team Altius) placed 54th.
Earlier in the day, the women raced the 12.5km Mass Start 60. Kelsey Dickinson (Winthrop, WA/Craftsbury Green Racing Project) led the U.S. women in 33rd after hitting 18 of 20 targets. Joanne Reid (Grand Junction, CO/Colorado Biathlon Club) followed just three seconds later in 35th. Jackie Garso (Lake Clear, NY/Craftsbury Green Racing Project) finished 48th, while Grace Castonguay (Jackson, NH/Soldier Hollow Elite) placed 54th. Lina Farra (Heber City, UT/Unaffiliated) was lapped during the race.
