Freed Hits World Cup Personal Best, 13th in Oslo Sprint
by Sara Donatello
Carrying the momentum from a historic mixed relay bronze medal in Otepää, EST into the World Cup finale in Oslo, NOR, Margie Freed (Apple Valley, MN/Craftsbury Green Racing Project) attacked the women’s 7.5km sprint with confidence and composure. Shooting a perfect 10 for 10, just the second clean sprint of her career, Freed raced to 13th place, marking a World Cup personal best and her first-ever top-15 finish.
After finishing the race, she threw up a rock-and-roll hand sign with an energetic “WOOO!”, a fitting celebration for a breakthrough performance. Freed finished +1:18.6 behind Sweden’s Hanna Öberg, who claimed the win, while Italy’s Lisa Vittozzi took second and Sweden’s Elvira Öberg finished third.
Teammate Deedra Irwin (Pulaski, WI/Army World Class Athlete Program) also delivered a composed performance, shooting clean for the fifth time in a sprint this season to finish 27th. Chloe Levins (Rutland, VT/Mansfield Nordic Pro) secured all three U.S. women in the pursuit with her 48th place finish, missing just one target in prone.
With the men’s 10km sprint on deck tomorrow, the women will have a day of training before toeing the line in the women’s 10km pursuit on Saturday at 08:45 ET/13:45 CET.
