APU Nordic Ski Center / Biathlon Alaska

In the winter of 2017, John attended the West Yellowstone Nordic Festival, where he first shot a biathlon rifle. The following year, at age 10, he took up biathlon as a sport. His APU Junior team coach and his Biathlon Alaska coach, Galen Johnston and Tom Grenier, have been a big inspirations for John throughout his career. So far, his favorite venue to race at is Kincaid Park, in his hometown of Anchorage, AK.

Outside of biathlon, John enjoys fly fishing, backcountry skiing, and exploring the mountains near Anchorage.

  1. He caught his first fish at age 2.
  2. He has trained with the APU Nordic ski team since he was in middle school, training on their Devos, Juniors, and now, their Elite team.
  3. His first job was commercial fishing in Cook Inlet.
